Hochiki Workshop – Training & Demonstrations of the ESP Addressable Protocol

At Discount Fire Supplies, we co-host free workshops throughout the year, teaming up with manufacturers to bring you expert training and demonstrations. Last month, we collaborated with Hochiki to bring a training workshop to local installers, helping them get to grips with the ESP addressable protocol.

Hochiki Training Morning

Hosted in July, we were joined at Penderyn Distillery by Martin Green from Hochiki. The morning gave an introduction to the Hochiki ESP addressable protocol, with the session being important for open-protocol installers, to gain an understanding of the core features. Attendees received a demonstration of the handheld programmer, understanding how to optimise sound levels with explanation on how the ESP Visual Alarm Devices (VADs) can achieve an EN54-23 compliant system.

The session included:

  • Benefits of using the Hochiki addressable protocol over competitors
  • How to use the hand-held programmer to address devices
  • Benefits of the extended address range, which gives the opportunity to support more devices on each loop
  • Overview of the Hochiki VAD beacon devices making it easy to engineer an EN54-23 compliant system

Hochiki ESP Addressable Protocol

Hochiki’s ESP open protocol is supported by all major fire panel manufacturers, giving installers full flexibility when choosing panels, and includes features such as extended addressing, adjustable sensor sensitivity and sub-addressing. The ESP range is fully certified to EN54 and many devices are available with an optional integral short-circuit isolator.

The Hochiki handheld programmer is robust and operates from a single PP3 size battery, with capacity for up to 8,000 operations, making device addressing simple.

The workshop also covered addresses and sub-addresses giving systems greater capacity.

Our Presenter, Martin Green

Martin Green, Hochiki’s Commercial Training and Support Manager, ran the training session for all attendees to learn and develop.

‘Thank you very much to Tariq and Nadim for inviting me to present at the Penderyn Distillery, a perfect venue for events like this. It was my pleasure to demonstrate the features of ESP and the programmer, also to meet, and catch up, with customers of our distribution partner. Looking forward to the next event in October!’ – Martin Green, Hochiki

Upcoming Workshop – Advanced

Our next workshop is with Advanced on 25th September 2024. Phil Calvey from Advanced will provide attendees with an overview and demonstration of AdvancedLive – a digital system that provides you with secure and real-time access to your Advanced fire system, allowing you to remotely monitor and control your panel and devices.

This workshop is suited to those who use, sell or install Advanced products, helping you to gain an edge on competitors by supplying your customers with added functionality to manage their Advanced systems.
