Fireworks Fire Safety

Fireworks Fire Safety
Be Safe This Fireworks Season

At this time of year it seems there are fireworks going off every night of the week! If you’re planning a fireworks display or a bonfire for any of the seasonal celebrations please take note of our quick fireworks fire safety guide.

Preparation Is Key

  • Before planning any firework display or open fire it is important to ensure that you will be doing it in as safe a manner as possible.
  • Always ensure that you have purchased your fireworks from a reputable retailer and that they carry the BS 7114 or CE mark – this is your guarantee that they have been manufactured to British or
  • European safety standards.
  • Make sure the area you’ll be setting the fireworks off in has a clear view of the sky and that the ground is clear of flammable debris.
  • Read the instructions in advance. You don’t want to be ready to set the fireworks up with no idea of how to use them safely. And especially don’t read the instructions using a naked flame as your light source!

On The Night

  • Keep a bucket of water nearby to put out any small accidental fires or to put out sparklers safely. If you have a small fire extinguisher it would be worth keeping this nearby too.
  • Make one person responsible for the fireworks display. They should be the only person who handles and lights the fireworks.
  • Do not drink any alcohol if you are the person responsible for the display – there will be plenty of time later in the evening to get merry.
  • Wear protective goggles and gloves to handle the fireworks and use a taper to ignite the fireworks.
  • Keep children away from any open flames and ensure they are supervised at all times, especially if they are holding sparklers.

Most of all, be safe and have fun!
